Hello from Gainesville, Georgia! What a week it’s been! I said goodbye to all my people back home, packed a (large) backpack, and was off to training camp in Gainesville, GA this past Friday. It was such a wonderful time meeting my squad (I’m on an all girls team, there’s 6 of us along with our 2 incredible leaders), building relationships through team activities, listening to different sermons, learning about the cultures we will be living in ( we ate community style with our hands), and preparing our hearts to go to Africa and serve the Lord.

We were all ready to head out Wednesday evening however, the Lord had other plans for us. Tuesday night, we found out two girls on our squad tested positive for COVID-19, soooo change of plans. Adventures in Missions relocated us to a house a few miles away from training camp and we will be quarantining until next week. I am so grateful for such a smooth transition. From there we will retest in a week and then we will head out to South Africa if we are negative. Sad, but we‘ve all found some good in it.

After much reflecting I’m realizing we each need this time in a different way. My life these past few months have been filled with so much chaos and I was almost to the point of burnout. During this time of rest I’m realizing how I need to refocus on the Lord and allow my body and mind to repose. These next three months are not going to be physically and emotionally restful, so I need to take this time now to practice being in the moment, grow close with my team, and slow down.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
 Matthew 11:28

I will continue to rest in this verse in the coming days and I look forward to living moment by moment surround by such a strong group of women.
Please be praying for us as we rest in the Lord and prepare for whatever the next coming weeks will hold:)

Blessing,
Brenna:)

  1. Knowing what I do now, I’m so glad you got to still go AND get some much needed and we’ll deserved rest ahead of time! Things do happen for a weird reason sometimes, but all according to His purpose. He knew you were almost burnt out and needed maybe just a few more days to make your 100% effort impact. Like you said, it was sad leaving later after all that planning, anticipation, and preparation, but go you for finding the good in it! Your group sounds amazing, and I’m glad you all can be safe!
